Wondercap
I was recently given the opportunity to trial the Wondercap. This product appealed to me because I swim alot (3-4 times a week) and my hair never seems to recover well from the chlorine. So I was keen to see if this would make a difference.
According to their website, the Wondercap, ‘the heat from the cap opens up your hair cuticles allowing the conditioner to deeply nourish the inner hair shaft. After rinsing, the cuticles close up locking in the moisture.’
Big claims but do they stand up to scrutiny? I have put this through its paces for a couple of weeks and think I have a pretty good idea of how well it works. Read on to find out.
Packaging
This looks like a shower cap, only about ten times heavier. The material on top is quilted and super thick. It’s beautifully made. Very substantial and wonderfully finished.
Also included is an Intensive Conditioning Treatment, to be used in conjunction with the Wondercap.
Product
To use this, wash your hair, but do not condition. Comb through the Intensive Conditioning Treatment and then heat the Wondercap in the microwave for two minutes. Once it’s warm, place on your head like a shower cap for three minutes, remove and then rinse.
Here’s me wearing the Wondercap and looking like a political activist of some sort. Why the angry eyes, Jacie?
Ok, here’s the deal. When I use this with the provided Intensive Conditioning Treatment, my hair does feel softer than with normal conditioning. Even Brett helpfully commented, ‘Wow, it doesn’t look like straw’. This is a great result as my hair is naturally coarse, so getting it to look moisturised and nourished is hard work.
But it gets better. When I use the Wondercap in conjunction with Kerastase’s Chroma Riche, some strange alchemy occurs and my hair looks like it’s straight out of a Pantene commercial. It’s absolutely magical.
How magical? Well, I was standing in the lift at work last week and a random strange woman stroked my hair. Her excuse was ‘It’s just so glossy, I had to touch it’. So my hair looked so good that it compelled a woman to stroke a stranger’s hair in a lift.
I think it’s the heaviness of the quilt that seals the heat in, giving your hair a flash intensive surge of moisture, that makes this work as well as it does. I used to use cling film with treatments and, whilst that works ok, this works a million times better. And my head doesn’t get cold whilst I sit around waiting for the treatment to work.
Price
This retails for $49.95 $39.95. Not cheap but the cap itself will probably last forever.
Would I repurchase?
I would. Funnily enough, it’s the random stroking that makes me realise how well this product works for me. And she’s not wrong – my hair is looking brilliant. It’s feeling brilliant. And it’s so shiny that it’s probably distracting pilots right about now.
