Product Review – Evil Shades ‘Devilista’

Product Review – Evil Shades ‘Devilista’

We all know the beautiful and talented Andrea from Black Nail Polish and Lipgloss. What you may not know is that Andrea also runs her own indie makeup company, Evil Shades.

I recently bought a whole stack of glosses and Devilista, a beautiful red that I hoped would rival the magnificent YSL reds I have.

Now, before I jump, I want to disclose that Andrea is a friend and I love her dearly.  Despite that love, this is an utterly honest review of my experiences with Devilista.  If I didn’t review it honestly, Andrea would kick my a** and, quite frankly, I’m scared of her.  ;-)

Packaging

This comes in a lip balm tube.

Because of the circular nature of the tube, it’s near impossible to apply this on the go.  Unless, of course, you have either mad precision application skills or you are aiming to look Ronald McDonald.  If neither of these apply to you, get out your lip brush and compact to achieve a perfect finish.

Product

I’ll not beat around the bush here.  This lipstick is comparable to YSL. I’m not kidding.  It lacks a little of the creaminess I love in YSL but in terms of pigmentation (crazy intense), application (use a lip brush and it glides on like a dream) and longevity (lasts all day with only minor fading), it holds its own.

What I really like about this lipstick is its wearability.  This is not the kind of red that will make you look like a truck stop hooker.  I can wear this to work in my very conservative corporate environment and feel quite comfortable in doing so.

Price

Here’s the best bit.  This lipstick is under $5.  $5 for a lacquer that is comparable to the world’s best is a pretty good deal.

Would I repurchase?

Most definitely.  Sure, this product lacks the bells and whistles in terms of packaging but if you’re looking for a beautiful blue red that will wear all day, look sublime and is the price of a sandwich, then this is it.

Hee hee heee…truck stop hooker! What? They have these in Australia too? ;) That's my kind of red and my kinda price. Looks classy on you. I hope I can look half as classy when I get it.

Wow. I tend to be wary of lipsticks in chapstick tubes, but this looks absolutely amazing, and I can tell it's really pigmented…and for just $5?! This is definitely going on my “to buy” list. :)

  • JacieO

Yep, $5. If you do try it, let me know what you think!

  • JacieO

Oh yah we have truck stop hookers. They're very elegant. You're too kind Kimberly. I think this would make even truck stop hookers look like Julia Roberts circa Pretty Woman.

  • JacieO

Glad you like – it's a superb lipstick.

  • Leanne

Holy cow – I knew Andrea had her own line but hadn't heard all the much about it. I am SERIOUSLY impressed with the look of this!

  • JacieO

I was so surprised by this little beauty. I actually wear it more than the glosses. It's a classic colour and the formula is wonderful.

  • Kiki Chaos

Um, hope this doesn't sound creepy… but you have lovely shaped lips Jacie *blush* I'm too much of a wallflower to wear red lippy, but it looks gorg on you.

  • JacieO

    Thanks Kiki. :-)
