Product Review – Clinique High Lengths Mascara

Product Review – Clinique High Lengths Mascara

I love products that deviate from the norm so I was pretty excited when Clinique released their High Lengths Mascara.

According to the marketing spiel:

Stretch limp, lifeless lashes to lengths beyond your wildest expectations. And wow-eyes look noticeably wider, fully energized. Our curved, fine-toothed comb finds the tiniest lashes and brings them out of hiding. Ophthalmologist tested and appropriate for sensitive eyes.

Sounds fab doesn’t it, but did this mascara live up to my ‘wildest expectations’? Jump to find out!

Packaging

The packaging is pretty standard for a mascara. A tube with an applicator.

I guess it’s the wand that makes this a little special. The wand is extraordinarily light weight and, rather than brush bristles, there is a comb with short rubber ‘bristles’. It’s all very space aged and post-modern and is a brilliant conversation starter.

Product

First, let’s talk the wand. This takes some getting used to. At first I couldn’t quite get my head around the fact that something so light could work. And, realistically, the almost weightlessness of the wand makes for a trickier application initially. I found myself resting my pinky finger on my cheek just to steady my hand.

However, after using this for a few weeks, I absolutely love it. It gives me the perfect arch in my lashes and the wand itself is perfect for separating out individual lashes.

Formula wise, this is MAGICAL. It leaves my lashes feeling very soft and supple (no dry spider legs lashes here).  I wear this 12 hours in the office and it doesn’t flake, smudge or wear away. Removal is super easy with an eye makeup remover (no chance of morning after raccoon eyes).

Unfortunately, as you can see in the photos above (without mascara on the left, with mascara on the right), I don’t think the mascara has lengthened my lashes. I suspect that is because I already have pretty long lashes. Any longer and I could braid them. Regardless, no lengthening.

What this does do, and it does it beautifully, is give my lashes both a more defined and thickened appearance. I find that, wearing this, I can occasionally forgoe wearing eyeliner on my tightline because the mascara has done a great job in framing my eye.

Price

In Australia, this will set you back about $36 which is pretty standard for a department store mascara.

Would I repurchase?

Oh man, yes I would. It’s early days but this could be my HG for mascara. It’s a great middle ground between the high end and drugstore brands and that wand – oh that wand – I’m not convinced I’ll ever go back to a bushy brush.

I have this mascara too and I quite like it, it does a good job at getting to the roots of my lashes :) I'm wondering if any other mascaras (drugstore) have this same wand mm

Rimmel have a great one: Glam Eyes which I quite like. My only criticism of it is that it clumps. :-(
